WOMAD 2013 time, and lots of fun and great music was enjoyed by all. We did wimp out on the Sunday as it was rather very damp. But we had see so much and enjoyed so much it was ok. Some of our favorites were Ayarkhaan from Russia, Correspondants from the UK, Hugh Masekela, Savoy Family Cajun Band, Vieux Farka Toure and special guest Taj Mahal.
With an early start on the Friday we arrived and got in the family camp site again with plenty of time to spare. we then went into the town center for lunch and movies to see OZ until it was time to head back and see the opening ceremony. The food was just a good again this year with Greek and India being the popular choices. Unfortunately by 9.30 we were all tired and didn't manage to stay awake to watch fly my pretties. An inconsiderate drunk mum giving it large till 2am didn't help sleep that first night! But a full day of music again on the Saturday in the warm was lots of fun still and we made base camp and everyone went off to do different things and enjoy the festival.
Sunday morning brought lots of persistent rain all day, so a swim at the local pool and back to the tent was enough to forgo the days lineup and head home. The good stuff was on late Sunday night and it was clear wet damp miserable kids were never going to last that long anyway! Shame, but the rain is most welcome by the farmers, who are all suffering in drought conditions and the Black Caps who were heading for a loss in the cricket. So the rain saved the day!
Washing machine is on, rain is poring and some very wet tents laid out in the garage awaiting some sunshine to put them back up and air them out.
